Michelle - Junior Buyer

Michelle's story begins at JBC in 2018 as an Assistant-Buyer. In 2022, she took the next step in her career as a Junior-Buyer. She is part of our Buying team, a crucial department for the JBC family. Michelle is always willing to help with projects, which makes her a great colleague!

What is your best memory of JBC?
A few years ago we organized a Bestieval on the outdoor play day. Too bad I didn't have children then. But it was a great afternoon! (Bestieval comes from besties, which are play clothes).

What is the biggest challenge in your job?
Making sure there are beautiful items hanging in the shop.

How does your department contribute to the functioning of JBC?
I work in the buying department. We buy all the clothes. Our department is essential for JBC :)

What does a typical workday look like for you?
In the morning, I try to finalize prices so that the orders can go into production, I check lab dips and strike offs (these are pieces of fabric or buttons, zips,... that the supplier sends), I check the samples that come in to see if they are made like we asked. In the afternoon, samples and lab dips come in again, I have consultations with colleagues, handovers ...

What tips do you have for someone who would like to work for JBC?
Take a chance, you can be yourself at JBC. Being stress resistant is also a must.

What achievement are you most proud of?
My achievement is actually a team achievement. Together with the whole team, we make sure that everything is in the shop on time. It is often a challenge to get all the products into the shop on time, due to lockdowns, problems at the suppliers, ... So we are always happy when we manage to get everything into the shop on time and with good quality.

What is your favorite event at JBC?
The trend presentation. This event is organized every season by the concept designers. Here the trends for the coming season are discussed. Colors are presented. It is very inspiring.

How do you feel about your colleagues in the department and at JBC?
I have super nice colleagues. It is a safe environment where I can be myself completely.

What is the best recurring action at JBC?
Every 2 weeks, the technical designer gives a handover to the buyer. During that handover, the technical designer gives the buyer the style sheet. It is always nice to see what they have drawn.

If you could make one wish for JBC, which would it be?
That every year we do even better than ever!

How has your role evolved over the years?
I started in 2018 as a Buying Assistant. Now I am a Junior-Buyer.

How would you describe the atmosphere at JBC?
There is always a nice atmosphere in the office, friendly.

To conclude, complete with 1 word: working at JBC is ... fun and challenging! (oops that's 3).
